Urbex – Clark hospital
Located inside the former Clark Airbase in Pampanga, Philippines, this hospital was established in 1964. It was considered the Medical Center for Southeast Asia at one point and the US Armed Forces treated several of their soldiers wounded from the Vietnam War in this medical facility.
The hospital was first vacated in 1991–two days before the grounds were covered between 8-12inches of volcanic ash from the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. Later in the year, it was completely abandoned when remaining US military personnel left and the whole airbase was turned over to the Philippine Government.
At present, it is known to be the most haunted place in the Philippines. Locals speak of several paranormal encounters in the area. The hospital grounds is now covered and overgrown with weeds and foliage. The shell of the building is still solid and recognizable given its signature façade. The inside, however, has been gutted and in decaying ruins with rusted elevators left in the shaft, metal bed frames wasting away and dark and mossy staircases leading up floors and down basements. This hospital is now home to a few birds, a number of bats, some spiders and a couple of stray dogs.
In exploring the hospital, one should be wary of the police patrol that surveys the area in their motorbikes. They have been tasked to keep away ghost hunters, adventure seekers, urban explorers and trespassers in general.
We had this unfortunate encounter and we had to smile and charm our way out of that sticky situation.
